Israel's Desalination Plants Operate Below Capacity Amid Algal Bloom
Despite assurances from Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen that the water sector would return to full operation, Israel's desalination plants continue to function partially. The Sorek B and Palmahim facilities are still operating at reduced capacity. The Hadera plant, which remained operational, is functioning normally.
The Water Authority hopes to resume full operations at the Sorek A plant but has not provided a timeline. Officials are also unable to predict when the algal bloom along the Mediterranean coast, which is causing the operational issues, will subside.
Consequently, several key desalination facilities are not yet operating at full capacity, and the timeline for a full normalization of the water sector remains uncertain.
