Israel's Water Sector to Resume Full Operations After Contamination Event
Israel's Energy Minister Eli Cohen announced that the country's water sector will return to full operational capacity within the coming hours, following a temporary shutdown of desalination facilities. The shutdown was implemented to protect the plants from contamination, which Cohen stated is now largely behind them.
Speaking at the Sorek desalination facility, Cohen explained that the water turbidity was caused by algae originating from the Nile region, describing it as a significant, extreme event. To mitigate the impact, authorities increased pumping from the Sea of Galilee and boosted drilling operations.
The minister assured the public that the measures taken were successful in safeguarding the water infrastructure and that the situation is under control.
