Water Supply to Southern Agriculture Restored After Desalination Plant Issues

Water supply to agriculture in southern Israel was restored overnight Wednesday after some desalination facilities resumed operations and water reservoirs were replenished. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Water Authority confirmed that household water supply was uninterrupted throughout the event.

The resumption of agricultural water delivery was made possible by the partial return to service of desalination plants on Wednesday evening, coupled with increased pumping from alternative sources including water wells and the Sea of Galilee. The Water Authority stated that water supply for both households and agriculture is expected to continue uninterrupted.

However, local authorities have been asked to further reduce water flow for irrigating public gardens to alleviate strain on the system. The Water Authority's operations center, in coordination with Mekorot (the national water company) and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, continues to manage the situation. Teams are constantly monitoring the water system's status to ensure continuous supply to residents.

Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Eli Cohen stated, "Despite the unusual natural phenomenon, the water economy is proving its resilience. Thanks to intensive work, we have renewed the water supply to agriculture, and the water supply to households continues as normal." He thanked the employees of the Water Authority, Mekorot, and the Ministry of Energy for their efforts in maintaining water supply to Israeli citizens.
