Israel Assures Stable Water Supply Amidst Desalination Plant Disruptions

Israel's Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eli Cohen, has reassured the public regarding the nation's water supply, stating that the water sector is stable and regular supply to all homes will be maintained. The minister explained that a rare natural phenomenon, unseen in the past two decades, has caused a significant increase in the turbidity of seawater, leading to the shutdown of most desalination facilities.

To ensure a consistent water flow, the ministry is increasing pumping rates from drilling sites and the Sea of Galilee, and has authorized the operation of two additional desalination plants. As a temporary measure, the supply of fresh water to the agricultural sector and for public landscaping will be reduced.

Cohen indicated that the situation is under review, with plans to potentially bring more desalination plants online later to meet agricultural needs. He expressed gratitude to the employees of the Ministry of Energy, the Water Authority, and Mekorot for their continuous efforts.
