Roy Revivo Joins Elche in Spain After Maccabi Tel Aviv Transfer

Maccabi Tel Aviv has agreed to sell young left-back Roy Revivo to Spanish club Elche, a move facilitated by recent team successes and player acquisitions. The decision to let Revivo depart was reportedly made easier by Maccabi's impressive victory over Maccabi Haifa and the signing of Gabi Kancepolsky, which eased concerns about squad depth. While Maccabi Tel Aviv will miss Revivo's contributions, the club anticipates making further profit on him in the future, having retained 30% of his future transfer rights.

Revivo's father, Haim, was instrumental in pushing for a move to a top European league, rejecting offers from the US and other European leagues in favor of Spain, Germany, Italy, or England. Elche, currently struggling in 19th place in La Liga, sees Revivo's attacking potential as a valuable asset. Revivo himself had previously requested to forgo a trip to Georgia for a match, indicating his desire for the transfer, and had faced disappointment when Maccabi Tel Aviv blocked a move to FC Copenhagen last year.

Maccabi Tel Aviv had planned for Dani Gruper to eventually fill Revivo's role, and Gruper is now back in training after a knee injury. The club believes Revivo's move to La Liga, even with a less prominent team like Elche, provides a strong platform for his career development and future opportunities in Europe, with the expectation that players moving to Spain rarely return to Israel if they don't succeed immediately.

Revivo's transfer is seen as a strategic move by his father, aiming for a higher level of play and potential for future lucrative contracts, similar to his own career path.
