Israeli Passengers Thwart Pilot's Attempted Attack on Flydubai Flight

Israeli passengers aboard a Flydubai flight successfully neutralized a co-pilot who allegedly stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the plane. Zvika Mans, CEO of Barak Naomi underwriting company at Bank Leumi, recounted how he and two other passengers subdued the assailant using headphone cords after the co-pilot breached the cockpit. The incident occurred as the flight neared Israel, causing the plane to dive sharply, terrifying passengers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the account, stating that a passenger managed to enter the cockpit with a crew member and together they disarmed the attacking pilot. He praised the passengers' "exceptional resourcefulness and courage" in preventing a major disaster. The injured captain, with assistance from a doctor and nurse onboard, managed to stabilize the aircraft, which subsequently made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Defense Minister Israel Katz described the event as a "jihadist terror attempt," asserting the attacker's sole intention was to crash the plane. Initial reports indicate the co-pilot was Omani, the captain was Indian, and a reserve pilot who assisted was from Fiji. The alleged attacker is currently under investigation by Saudi authorities, while Israeli officials are ensuring the safety and repatriation of the passengers.

Following the traumatic event, some Israeli passengers expressed apprehension about boarding a replacement Flydubai flight. However, after speaking with Israeli security officials, they were reportedly reassured.
