Flydubai Co-Pilot Suspected of Attempting to Crash Plane
A co-pilot of Omani descent is suspected of attempting to crash a Flydubai flight en route to Israel on Wednesday, according to initial investigations. The other pilot on board was from the United Arab Emirates. The incident occurred during the flight when the co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain multiple times.
Reports indicate that other pilots, traveling as passengers as part of a routine drill, along with crew members and passengers, managed to breach the cockpit door and subdue the assailant. A senior Israeli official stated that a "very heavy disaster was averted," adding that indications are growing that the co-pilot intended to take control of the plane and crash it with the passengers aboard.
The official further elaborated, "One pilot stabbed the other and is trying to do a 9/11. Either hijack the plane to the homeland or crash it. The plane began to dive. There was another team of pilots who took control of the stabber. The crew took control of the plane. A dramatic disaster was prevented."
Israeli authorities are investigating the possibility that the incident was an act of terrorism, with the co-pilot currently under interrogation.
