Flydubai Flight Declares Emergency After Pilot Attack, Lands Safely

A Flydubai flight en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv, carrying over 150 Israelis, experienced a severe incident when a violent altercation erupted between the two pilots in the cockpit. This led to the transmission of a distress code, signaling a potential hijacking and placing the entire Middle East on high alert. In response, Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled.

Passengers described scenes of terror, with one Israeli passenger, Miriam, recounting hearing screams and seeing significant amounts of blood in the cockpit after one pilot allegedly attacked the other with a knife. She described feeling the plane was about to crash and that she shouted "Shema Yisrael" (Hear, O Israel). A doctor and nurse on board provided initial aid to the injured pilot. Miriam added that the Israeli passengers and crew neutralized the assailant, leading to an emergency landing.

Flydubai confirmed that the two pilots, identified as Russian and Ukrainian, fought in the cockpit and that a hijacking code was activated. The aircraft, which had turned over Jordan, diverted and landed in Saudi Arabia. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz held urgent security consultations, and the IDF Chief of Staff canceled a trip to the United States.

Security officials indicated that the primary suspicion is that one of the pilots attempted to deliberately crash the plane with all passengers aboard, which would have resulted in a major disaster. A senior Israeli official stated, "A heavy disaster was prevented today." The co-pilot is reportedly under investigation. The airline's CEO informed Israeli transportation authorities, and a replacement aircraft was dispatched from Dubai to Saudi Arabia to bring the Israeli passengers back to their destination. The Prime Minister's office confirmed the situation was under control and that all measures were being taken to ensure the safe return of the passengers.
