Israel Braces for Heatwave Before Autumn Chill, Yom Kippur Warm-Up

Israel is set to experience a significant heatwave in the coming days, with temperatures expected to climb 3-4 degrees Celsius above average for mid-September. The Israeli Meteorological Service forecasts that inland areas will see conditions resembling a 'sharav,' a hot and humid wind.

This heat is expected to peak by Wednesday. However, a cooling trend will begin on Thursday, continuing into the weekend. Early forecasts suggest the weekend will bring the first hints of autumn, with a good chance of localized rain in northern Israel on Friday.

Looking ahead to the week of Yom Kippur, a Jewish holiday falling in early October, preliminary predictions indicate another warming trend. Dr. Amir Givati, director of the Meteorological Service, stated that more substantial weather changes, including widespread rain, are possible in late September and into October, but cautioned that these are long-range forecasts requiring continued monitoring.

High temperatures are predicted across the country, with Eilat reaching up to 39°C, Tiberias 37°C, and Beersheba and Kiryat Shmona 36°C. Jerusalem will see highs of 32°C, Tel Aviv 31°C, and Haifa 30°C.
