Netanyahu Declares Full Control Over Northern Border Region

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted complete Israeli control over the territory stretching from Mount Hermon to the Yarmouk River and extending to the Mediterranean Sea during a visit to Mount Hermon on September 9, 2026. He was accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Deputy IDF Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai. At an Israeli checkpoint, Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo and 210th Division commander Brig. Gen. Yair Palai briefed Netanyahu on the operational situation.

Speaking from Mount Hermon, Netanyahu stated, "We are on the summit of Mount Hermon. Damascus is right here, Lebanon is right there, the Syrian Golan Heights are right there, and we control all the territory from the summit of Hermon to the Yarmouk River and from here to the Mediterranean Sea, absolute control like never before." He emphasized that Israel would not permit any "terrorist army" to establish itself on its border, calling this a significant achievement of the "War for Redemption."

Netanyahu also highlighted the ongoing need to address threats, particularly the defeat of Iran's regime, which he believes Israel is close to achieving. He expressed confidence that the "entire axis" would eventually fall and wished Israelis and soldiers a happy new year ahead of Rosh Hashanah. The visit and statement come amidst reports of ongoing security operations, including arrests of suspected terrorists and clashes along Israel's northern border.
