Netanyahu Vows Iran Will Not Get Nuclear Weapons Under His Leadership
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Thursday that Israel will prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons for as long as he remains prime minister. Speaking at the Western Wall ahead of Rosh Hashanah, Netanyahu affirmed U.S. President Donald Trump's statement that Iran is seeking to rebuild its nuclear capabilities.
"President Trump announced tonight that Iran is trying to rearm with nuclear weapons. This is true," Netanyahu stated. He asserted that Israel had previously destroyed Iran's immediate capacity to produce nuclear bombs through military operations, but Tehran is now attempting to reconstruct it.
"I promise you here, at the Western Wall, as Rosh Hashanah approaches: as long as I am prime minister, Iran will not possess nuclear weapons," he vowed.
Netanyahu also addressed Israel's ongoing operations against what he termed the "Iranian axis," claiming that Israeli forces are delivering severe blows to adversaries in multiple arenas, including Gaza and Lebanon. He specifically mentioned the destruction of the Beaufort Ridge in Lebanon and ongoing operations targeting the Ali Taher Ridge.
The prime minister concluded his remarks with a brief "To be continued," suggesting further operations or announcements may follow.
