IDF Eliminates Hamas Elite Unit Commander Involved in October 7th Attack
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet announced on Wednesday the elimination of a Hamas elite unit commander, Mohammed Mahmoud Murshid Al-Qadi, in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip. Al-Qadi was identified as the commander of the elite unit that led the assault on the Sofa outpost during the October 7th Hamas attacks. He was also involved in holding hostages in Rafah.
According to the joint statement, Al-Qadi participated in the raid on the Sofa outpost on October 7th and, throughout the war, was involved in holding hostages in the Rafah area. In recent weeks, he had been overseeing training for Hamas operatives and working to rebuild the organization's capabilities. The statement also noted his involvement in planning terrorist attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians.
The IDF confirmed that its Southern Command forces are operating in the area as planned and will continue to address any immediate threats.
