IDF Denies Tunnel Discovery in Qalqilya After Palestinian Reports
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Border Police apprehended four suspects overnight in the West Bank city of Qalqilya during an operation to locate weapons. The operation was based on intelligence received by the forces.
During the search, soldiers discovered two shafts approximately 12 meters deep. Near these shafts, weapons including an M16 rifle, a hunting rifle, a pistol, and ammunition were found and confiscated. The IDF stated that "contrary to official and irresponsible announcements made on the matter, after investigating the shafts, the existence of a tunnel route in the shafts was ruled out, and the proximity of the shafts to the seam area was ruled out."
The IDF's statement directly contradicts earlier reports from Palestinian sources regarding the discovery of a tunnel. The military emphasized that no tunnel was found and that the shafts were not close to the "seam area," a term often used to refer to the barrier separating Israel from the West Bank.
