IDF Denies Tunnel Discovery in Qalqilya After Police Report

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Thursday afternoon that its forces operated overnight in Qalqilya to locate weapons based on intelligence, contradicting earlier official reports. Following an investigation of two 12-meter deep shafts, the IDF stated that no tunnel was found and the shafts were not near the seam line. During the operation, soldiers seized numerous weapons, including an M-16 rifle, a hunting rifle, a pistol, and ammunition.

In addition to the weapons, the forces arrested four suspects involved in terrorist activity, who were handed over for security force interrogation. The IDF indicated that operations in the area are ongoing to locate any additional shafts or weapons. Security forces will continue proactive operations to thwart terrorism throughout the Judea and Samaria Division and ensure resident safety.

On Wednesday, police had reported the discovery of a tunnel in the excavation stage, at least 25 meters deep, along with weapons. Four suspects were arrested for questioning. Police also reported finding the beginning of another tunnel excavation, with seized items including an M16 rifle, a sniper rifle, ammunition, magazines, phones, fertilizer (used for explosives), and a DVR device. The Israel Police stated they would continue proactive operations to uncover excavation infrastructure and weapons in the Samaria region.
