Yair Golan Sues Sara Netanyahu for Defamation Over October 7th Remarks
Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Prime Minister, seeking 2.55 million shekels in damages. The lawsuit, submitted to the Central District Court in Lod, alleges that Netanyahu defamed Golan and incited violence against him in an interview with Channel 14. Golan claims Netanyahu implied he had prior knowledge of the October 7th attacks.
Following the interview, Golan asserts that intelligence agencies issued specific warnings about threats against him, and online incitement against him surged dramatically. According to the lawsuit, one report indicated a 450% increase in inflammatory posts targeting Golan. This rise in threats, Golan contends, necessitated a significant expansion of his private security measures ahead of the upcoming elections.
Golan's legal filing argues that Netanyahu's statements crossed the line from political criticism into creating a genuine threat to his safety. The court has not yet issued a ruling on the merits of the case.
