Netanyahu's Wife Faces Third Defamation Warning Over Interview Remarks

Sara Netanyahu has received a third legal warning letter, this time from Eyal Giler, alleging defamation over statements made during a Channel 14 interview. The interview, reported by Aviad Glickman of Channel 13, discussed an incident involving the attempted ignition of barrels near the Prime Minister's residence.

In the interview, Netanyahu reportedly stated that security forces found tires and barrels around the home intended for ignition, describing it as a "circle of fire around our house." She further claimed that those involved intended to cause severe harm to her family, suggesting a desire to kill them and others. Giler's lawyers argue that a reasonable observer would interpret these remarks as accusing him of intending to cause death by fire.

Lawyers Tali Ben Simon and Yadin Dan Giladi, representing Giler, contend that Netanyahu's statements constitute severe defamation, potentially inciting hatred and contempt towards Giler and falsely attributing serious criminal intent to him. They emphasize that even the most severe allegations in Giler's indictment do not include the criminal intent Netanyahu described.

The legal team is demanding a public apology from Netanyahu and NIS 100,000 in compensation for Giler. Failure to comply could result in a NIS 1 million lawsuit. This letter serves as a pre-litigation notice, not a judicial determination of defamation.

A spokesperson for Giler's legal team stated, "The Prime Minister's wife made a series of dangerous lies that permit the blood of top Israeli patriots. We will not allow her to pollute public discourse and incite against citizens. She will apologize and pay."

This incident follows other recent legal and public disputes involving Netanyahu's statements, including previous warning letters and demands for apology, such as one from Yair Golan.
