Yair Golan Sues Sara Netanyahu for $675,000 Over Oct. 7 Conspiracy Claims

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, filed a defamation lawsuit for 2.5 million shekels (approximately $675,000) against Sara Netanyahu, the Prime Minister's wife, on Thursday. The lawsuit stems from remarks Netanyahu made in an interview with Channel 14, in which she implied Golan had prior knowledge of the October 7th Hamas attacks and suggested he was complicit in their execution.

Golan's legal filing states that Netanyahu's comments, "by their content, context, and circumstances, could encourage acts of violence against the plaintiff or legitimize them in the eyes of those who trust the defendant's words." The suit further alleges that Netanyahu's claims of Golan's foreknowledge and implied failure to prevent the attack, or even involvement in its execution, constitute treason and have directly endangered his life by increasing threats against him.

Reports indicate Golan intends to include evidence of threats he received and the security measures he has since required as part of his lawsuit. He had previously sent Netanyahu a warning letter, demanding an apology and a financial contribution to survivors of the Nova music festival massacre within 24 hours, or face legal action.

In response to the lawsuit, the Likud party dismissed Golan's actions as a "chauvinistic, thuggish, and violent display." Netanyahu, in her interview, had echoed conspiracy theories, stating Golan was "dressed and ready" early on October 7th, implying he had knowledge others, including the Prime Minister, did not possess.
