Yair Golan Sues Sara Netanyahu for $2.55 Million Over Interview Remarks

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, has filed a defamation and damages lawsuit for NIS 2.55 million (approximately $680,000) against Sara Netanyahu, the Prime Minister's wife. The lawsuit, filed in the Central District Court in Lod, stems from remarks Netanyahu made in an exclusive interview with Channel 14, which Golan alleges constitute libel and incitement to violence.

In the interview, Netanyahu criticized Golan's actions on the morning of October 7th and alluded to the circumstances of his early departure to the southern region. The Democratic Party vehemently condemned Netanyahu's statements, accusing her of spreading conspiracy theories and tarnishing Golan's reputation. They asserted that Golan had descended under fire to save lives while political leadership was in disarray.

The lawsuit further claims that following the interview, there was a surge in threats against Golan's life, necessitating increased security. However, when directly questioned about conspiracy theories or betrayal, Netanyahu explicitly denied endorsing them. She emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the events of that morning and focused her criticism on the Prime Minister not being timely updated with prior intelligence, which she claimed would have led to a different response and mitigated the disaster's scope.
