Netanyahu Faces Third Legal Threat Over Channel 14 Interview

Sara Netanyahu has received a third pre-lawsuit warning letter, this time from Eyal Giler, one of the defendants accused of arson in Jerusalem. Giler claims Netanyahu falsely attributed a murder intent to him during an interview on Channel 14, an accusation not included in his indictment. He is demanding an apology and NIS 100,000, or he threatens to sue for NIS 1 million.

Giler's legal team stated that Netanyahu's remarks implied he intended to cause death through the fire or its indirect consequences. They pointed out that Giler and others involved were charged with lesser offenses, not attempted murder, and that their names were widely published.

This follows a similar legal warning from Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, who also took issue with statements Netanyahu made about him on Channel 14. Golan demanded Netanyahu issue a correction and apology within 24 hours, with compensation to be donated to survivors of the Nova music festival. Golan's letter specified that Netanyahu's statements were false and baseless, asserting that he went to the Gaza border area on October 7th armed and risked his life to save young people from the festival. The letter also stated Golan learned of the Hamas attack with the first sirens and decided to act.

Golan's legal team warned that if Netanyahu did not comply within 24 hours, they would pursue legal action for damages potentially exceeding NIS 2.5 million, considering the extent of the publications and his client's full damages.
