Shin Bet Reveals Plot to Assassinate Minister Ben-Gvir Using Drone
Two Palestinians from the Nablus area are accused of planning terrorist attacks against Israelis and security forces, including a plot to assassinate National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir using an explosive-laden drone. The Shin Bet and police announced Wednesday that the two men had been collaborating since late 2023.
According to the indictment, the suspects acquired M-16, M-4, and Kalashnikov rifles, handguns, a hunting rifle, and ammunition. They allegedly recruited additional operatives, conducted shooting drills, and discussed methods for carrying out attacks. The plan to target Ben-Gvir emerged in 2024 after one suspect suggested ambushing the minister at a terror scene after seeing a video of him arriving at such a location. The idea of using an explosive drone was later proposed, and one of the accused attempted to procure drone parts from China. The announcement did not state whether the drone was assembled or if the attempt on the minister's life was ever put into action.
Other planned attacks uncovered during the investigation included shooting attacks, the use of car bombs and booby-trapped drones, and the kidnapping of soldiers. Following an investigation by the Judea and Samaria District Police and the Shin Bet, the military prosecution in Samaria filed indictments against the two men and requested their detention until the end of legal proceedings.
This is not the first alleged assassination attempt against Ben-Gvir. Approximately two months ago, an indictment was filed against Muhammad Awad from Nazareth, who reportedly planned an attack involving a remote-controlled missile.
