Shin Bet Thwarts Plot by West Bank Terrorists to Assassinate Minister Ben-Gvir
The Shin Bet security agency has revealed a thwarted plot by two terrorists from Nablus in the West Bank to carry out a series of attacks, including an assassination attempt on National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The two men established a military terror infrastructure and acquired a significant arsenal of weapons, including M-16 and M-4 rifles, Kalashnikovs, pistols, a hunting rifle, and ammunition.
During their investigation, the Shin Bet and the Judea and Samaria District Police uncovered that the terrorists planned to conduct a "pull" attack, waiting for Ben-Gvir to arrive at a terror scene and then assassinating him. This plan evolved to include using an explosive-laden drone for the assassination, with one operative attempting to procure drone parts from China. The suspects also planned shooting attacks, car bombings, and the kidnapping of IDF soldiers.
The terror cell had been actively working since late 2023 to advance large-scale military activities in the West Bank. They recruited additional operatives, conducted shooting training, and prepared for various attack methods. The suspects' arrests were extended periodically by the court.
Following the gathering of evidence, severe indictments were filed against the two Palestinian terrorists by the military prosecution in Samaria. They are also facing a request for their detention until the end of legal proceedings. The investigation revealed their intent to target Israeli civilians and security forces with explosive drones and vehicles.
