Israel Security Agency and Police Uncover West Bank Terror Cell Plotting Minister's Assassination

Israel's Shin Bet security agency and police announced Wednesday the unsealing of indictments against a two-member terrorist cell from Nablus (Shechem) in the West Bank. The cell, active since late 2023, was reportedly building a significant military infrastructure in the region, including recruiting operatives, conducting weapons training, and acquiring a cache of firearms such as M-16s, M-4s, Kalashnikovs, and pistols.

According to the investigation and indictments, in 2024 the pair planned to assassinate Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The plot reportedly began after the terrorists saw a video of the minister arriving at a terror attack site. One of the operatives then suggested a "pulling attack" where they would wait for the minister to arrive at a scene to target him. This plan evolved to include using a deadly explosive drone, with attempts made to purchase drone parts from China.

Beyond the assassination attempt, the cell also prepared for additional attacks targeting Israeli civilians and security forces. These included plans for severe shooting attacks, the use of explosive vehicles and attack drones, and the kidnapping of IDF soldiers. The two individuals were repeatedly detained during the investigation. Following the completion of the investigation and the gathering of solid evidence, the military prosecution in Samaria filed serious indictments against them and requested their continued detention until the legal proceedings conclude.
