Israel Foils Major Terror Plot Targeting Minister Ben-Gvir
Israel's Shin Bet security agency and the police's central investigative unit have thwarted a significant terror operation planned by a cell active in the Nablus (Shchem) area. The group was reportedly preparing for high-profile attacks against both civilians and soldiers.
According to the police, the investigation revealed that two suspects began their activities in late 2023, amassing a substantial arsenal. This included assault rifles like M-16, M-4, and Kalashnikovs, along with pistols, shotguns, and ammunition. They were also engaged in recruiting new members, conducting weapons training, and developing various attack scenarios.
A primary objective of the cell was an assassination attempt on National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The suspects reportedly conceived this plan after watching a video of the minister arriving at a terror attack site. Initially, they considered luring him into a trap, but later shifted to using an explosive-laden drone. One suspect attempted to procure drone components from Chinese online suppliers for this purpose.
Beyond the plot against Ben-Gvir, the cell planned car bombings and drone attacks targeting civilians and IDF units. They also discussed shooting attacks and kidnapping soldiers to use as leverage.
Following the evidence gathering by the police's counter-terrorism unit and the Shin Bet, the military prosecution in the Samaria (Shomron) district has filed charges against the detained suspects. A court has ordered them to remain in custody until the trial concludes.
