Shin Bet Thwarts Plot to Assassinate Minister Ben-Gvir, Kidnap Soldiers
Israel's Shin Bet security agency announced on Wednesday the dismantling of a militant cell in Nablus that was planning major attacks, including the assassination of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers. Two Palestinian men from the Nablus area have been indicted following an extensive investigation.
The cell, active since late 2023, allegedly planned to lure Ben-Gvir to a site by attacking a target and then assassinate him when he arrived. They also explored using a bomb-laden drone for the assassination and attempted to purchase drone parts from China. Other planned operations included kidnapping soldiers, rigging vehicles and drones with explosives, and carrying out shooting attacks against civilians and security forces.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered an arsenal of weapons, including M-16 rifles, Kalashnikovs, pistols, and hunting rifles, along with ammunition. The cell also recruited additional members and conducted weapons training.
The military prosecution has filed indictments against the two suspects based on evidence gathered by the counter-terrorism unit in the West Bank and the Shin Bet. Their detention has been extended pending the completion of legal proceedings.
