Terror Cell Planned to Assassinate Minister Ben-Gvir with Drone
The Shin Bet security agency and the counter-terrorism unit of the Judea and Samaria District Police have exposed a terror cell in the Nablus (Shchem) area that planned a series of attacks against civilians and security forces. According to indictments filed, the cell's members, operating since late 2023, acquired a significant arsenal of weapons, including M-16 and M-4 rifles, Kalashnikovs, handguns, a hunting rifle, and ammunition.
Key plots included kidnapping a soldier and an assassination attempt on National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The plan to target Ben-Gvir involved using an explosive-laden drone. Investigators revealed that in 2024, after observing a video of the minister arriving at a terror attack site, one cell member suggested a "pull-in attack": carrying out an initial attack and then assassinating Ben-Gvir when he arrived at the scene. The idea of using an explosive drone for the assassination was later proposed, and attempts were made to procure drone parts from China.
The cell also advanced plans for vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attacks and drone attacks against civilians and security forces, in addition to planning shooting attacks and the abduction of IDF soldiers. Following the gathering of evidence by the police and Shin Bet, the Samaria Military Prosecutor's Office filed indictments against two members of the cell and requested their detention until the end of legal proceedings.
