Israeli National Security Minister Ben Gvir Responds to Arrest of Suspected Assailant Plotting Attack Against Him

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir reacted to the arrest of a 29-year-old Nazareth resident, Mohammad Awad, who allegedly attempted to orchestrate a serious terror attack against him with Hamas support. Ben Gvir stated this is the ninth time terror groups have targeted him, emphasizing his resolve not to be intimidated. He expressed gratitude to the Shin Bet, Israel Police, intelligence services, and prison authorities for preventing harm to him and his family.

The suspect, who previously worked unarmed as a security guard at Afula's central bus station, was arrested earlier on Tuesday. Investigations revealed his efforts to join Hamas and plan an attack against Ben Gvir. This incident follows other foiled plots, including one about four months ago involving a 20-year-old East Jerusalem resident who communicated with a contact in Yemen to plan terror attacks, including a suicide bombing targeting Ben Gvir.

Additionally, over six months ago, a Hamas cell from the Hebron area, operating under the organization's command in Turkey, was dismantled. The cell had acquired drones intended to carry explosives for an assassination attempt on Ben Gvir, but the drones were seized during the arrests. Ben Gvir reaffirmed his commitment to prison reforms, demolishing illegal homes, enforcing the death penalty for terrorists, asserting Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount, and arming citizens for defense.

He concluded, "You will not intimidate me, and I will not be deterred. I will continue to work 24/7 for the people of Israel."
