Israeli Security Forces Uncover Plot to Kill Minister Ben Gvir Over Negev Home Demolitions
Israeli security agencies have revealed that four residents of Segev Shalom, arrested in May and June, planned a terror attack at Beersheba Central Bus Station and intended to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. Investigations uncovered images of Ben Gvir on the suspects' phones, linking their motivation to recent demolitions of illegal homes in the Negev region. According to interrogation transcripts obtained by journalist Lee Ayesh from i24 News, the suspects expressed intent to target the ministers due to the ongoing demolitions.
The indictment states that on March 31, one suspect reposted a video from an extremist Syrian jihadi profile featuring Netanyahu and Ben Gvir alongside a threatening Quranic verse. Minister Ben Gvir responded to the allegations, asserting that the assassination plot proves the effectiveness of his policy against illegal structures in the Negev. He emphasized that about 5,700 illegal buildings were demolished in the past year alone and vowed to continue and intensify this enforcement.
Ben Gvir also noted that this was not the first time his life was threatened, citing eight previous assassination attempts linked to his policies on prison security, death penalty legislation for terrorists, and efforts to restore governance in the Negev. He declared that threats and terror attempts would not deter him from pursuing law enforcement and public safety in Israel.
