Ed Sheeran Faces Pro-Palestinian Protest Amid US Tour

British singer Ed Sheeran is continuing his U.S. tour solo after rapper Macklemore was removed from the lineup due to anti-Israel statements made on stage. Sheeran himself has faced backlash from pro-Palestinian demonstrators, despite a $2 million donation he made to Gaza.

During a concert in Philadelphia on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field, dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the stadium. Inside, Sheeran addressed the ongoing conflict, stating that while the October 7th attack on Israel was "horrific," the current situation in Gaza is "catastrophic and unjustifiable."

Sheeran emphasized his desire for his music to promote unity, but acknowledged the humanitarian crisis compelled him to speak out. He described the events of October 7th, including the attack at the Nova music festival, as "horrific" and reflective of "centuries of Jewish pain." He then characterized the situation in Gaza as "catastrophic, unjustifiable, and disproportionate."

Expressing deep sorrow over the destruction and loss of civilian lives, particularly children, in Gaza, Sheeran also noted the "systemic injustice" occurring in the West Bank. He stated he is actively engaging with various groups to understand how he can best contribute to aiding victims during this "terrible time," admitting he is still learning about the complexities of the situation.
