Ed Sheeran Addresses Gaza Conflict During Philadelphia Concert

Pop star Ed Sheeran broke his silence on the ongoing conflict in Gaza during his concert in Philadelphia on Sunday, marking his first performance since rapper Macklemore was removed from the tour. Sheeran acknowledged the "horrific" October 7th attack but stated that the current situation in Gaza is "catastrophic and unjustifiable."

"My heart breaks for the scale of destruction and loss of civilian life, the lives of children," Sheeran told the audience. His remarks followed a week of controversy surrounding his tour, with protests occurring outside the venue.

Approximately 50 pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside Lincoln Financial Field, holding Palestinian flags and signs criticizing Israel and the ongoing war. Some signs also targeted American defense contractor Raytheon, accusing it of profiting from the conflict, though the company had no direct connection to the concert. The protests were organized by local pro-Palestinian groups.

The controversy also appeared to impact ticket sales, with prices reportedly dropping by over 50% in the week leading up to the Philadelphia show. While secondary market prices often decrease closer to an event, the sharp decline was noted amid the tour's heightened scrutiny.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, Palestinian artists created a large mural depicting Macklemore, wrapped in a Palestinian flag with a raised fist, accompanied by the message "Thank you for using your voice for Palestine."
