British singer Ed Sheeran addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza during his concert in Philadelphia, calling the situation "catastrophic and unjustified." This marks his first public statement on the matter after a week of political controversy surrounding his tour.

Sheeran acknowledged the "horrific" attack on October 7th but emphasized his heartbreak over the destruction and civilian casualties, including children, in Gaza. His remarks came as pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the stadium, holding signs and Palestinian flags. Some protesters also targeted the U.S. weapons manufacturer Day & Zimmermann, which is headquartered in Philadelphia, accusing it of profiting from the conflict.

The political controversy appears to have impacted ticket sales, with prices reportedly dropping by over 50% in the week leading up to the Philadelphia show. Many seats remained unsold shortly before the concert began, with tickets available at significantly reduced prices on secondary markets.

Meanwhile, rapper Macklemore, who was removed from Sheeran's tour program amid the controversy, received a different kind of recognition. Palestinian artists in Gaza created a large mural depicting Macklemore wrapped in a Palestinian flag, thanking him for using his voice for Palestine.
