British singer Ed Sheeran described the situation in Gaza as "catastrophic, unjustified, and disproportionate" during a concert in Philadelphia. His statement followed criticism for not publicly supporting pro-Palestinian remarks made by his opening act.
Sheeran performed without rapper Macklemore, who had left the tour after shouting "Free Palestine" at a concert in New Jersey. Sheeran stated he did not make the decision to remove the artist, placing responsibility on the tour organizer. "I have had to make difficult decisions, I make mistakes, and I am very, very sorry," Sheeran told the audience.
Following Sheeran's remarks, several other opening acts reportedly left the venue and publicly declared their support for Palestinians.
