Israeli Man Arrested for Spying for Lebanese Agent
Israeli police and the Shin Bet announced Friday the arrest of a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum in northern Israel, suspected of espionage activities on behalf of a Lebanese agent. The suspect, identified as Hamdan Hamdan, was apprehended in a joint operation by the Lahav 433 unit and the domestic security service.
According to the investigation, Hamdan maintained contact with the agent for several months. Investigators claim he knew his contact was a foreign agent operating from Lebanon and that she tasked him with various security-related missions. The network allegedly attempted to compensate him with goods purchased in Israel by the foreign handler and then given to Hamdan, amounting to a few hundred euros.
The investigation, overseen by the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, revealed that Hamdan is also associated with Amir Hisham Muhammad Titi, an ambulance driver from Bi'ina arrested in July and accused of spying for Iran. Titi is suspected of filming President Isaac Herzog and photographing the vicinity of former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's home.
An indictment is expected to be filed against Hamdan on Sunday.
