Northern Resident Arrested for Alleged Espionage for Lebanon

In a joint operation by the National Bureau for International Crime Investigations (Yahab"al) of Lahav 433 and the Shin Bet security agency, Hamdan Hamdan, a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum, was recently arrested on suspicion of security offenses, including contact with a foreign agent for the purpose of carrying out security missions under their direction. The investigation suggests that for several months, Hamdan was in contact with a female foreign agent from Lebanon, who tasked him with security missions. According to the findings, he was aware that his contact was with a foreign agent and that attempts were made to pay him for his activities by purchasing products in Israel and delivering them to him.

The investigation, overseen by the District Attorney's Office of the Coast, is expected to result in an indictment against Hamdan on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Police and the Shin Bet emphasized that intelligence and terror elements from enemy states continue to attempt to recruit Israelis for security, espionage, and terror missions within Israel, even during the current war.

Authorities are reiterating warnings to Israeli citizens and residents against contacting foreign elements from enemy states or unidentified individuals, particularly for performing tasks in exchange for payment. They noted that recruitment attempts often occur via social media, and security agencies are continuing efforts to detect and thwart terror and espionage activities in Israel.
