Northern Resident Arrested for Alleged Lebanese Agent Espionage

The Shin Bet (Israel's internal security agency) and the Lahav 433 special investigations unit of the Israel Police have arrested Hamdan Hamdan, a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum in northern Israel. He is suspected of engaging in security offenses, including contact with a foreign agent to carry out security missions under direction.

According to the joint investigation, Hamdan maintained contact with the foreign agent, identified as being from Lebanon, for several months. He was allegedly tasked with performing security missions and was aware that his contact was with a Lebanese agent. Attempts were made to pay him through the purchase of goods in Israel, which were then transferred to him.

The investigation, which is being handled by the Coastal District Prosecutor's Office, is expected to result in an indictment being filed on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Both the Israel Police and the Shin Bet issued a warning to Israeli citizens and residents against contacting foreign entities from enemy states or unidentified individuals. They emphasized that such groups, including intelligence and terror operatives, continue their efforts to recruit and operate Israelis for security, espionage, and terror missions within Israel, even during the current conflict. These efforts often occur through social media outreach.

Security forces stated they will continue to work to detect and thwart terror and espionage activities in Israel, employing all available means to prevent security threats to the state and its citizens.
