Northern Israel Resident Charged With Aiding Hamas, Contacting Iranian Agents
A 31-year-old resident of Tamra, in northern Israel, is set to be indicted on Friday at the Haifa District Court for multiple security offenses. He was arrested in August following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet and the Northern District's Central Police Unit.
According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly made repeated contact with the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, with the intention of secretly aiding them. Investigators also determined that he had established contact with members of Iranian intelligence services.
However, the suspect reportedly did not have time to carry out any missions for the Iranian intelligence before his arrest. The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office will file the indictment against him on Friday.
The Shin Bet and Israeli police stated they "view with the utmost gravity any involvement of Israeli citizens in activities that endanger the security of the state and its citizens." Both agencies pledged to continue using their resources to prosecute individuals involved in such activities.
