Israeli Resident Arrested for Attempting to Join Hamas and Target Government Minister
On July 21, 2026, Muhammad Awad, a 29-year-old Israeli citizen from Nazareth, was arrested by Shin Bet and Northern District police on suspicion of promoting terrorism and planning an attack against a serving government minister. During his interrogation, Awad admitted to contacting the terrorist organization Hamas with the intent to join and obtain resources to advance terrorist activities. He also planned to harm a current minister in the Israeli government. Following the investigation, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment declaration at the Nazareth court, preparing to formally charge Awad.
