Israel Detains Hamas Operatives Attempting to Infiltrate Local Militias for Assassinations

Israel currently holds dozens of Hamas operatives who tried to join local militias cooperating with Israel. The terrorist organization repeatedly sends agents to embed themselves within these militias with the goal of assassinating their leaders, but Israeli forces have intercepted them each time. According to a report by i24NEWS, a focused effort targeted the "Abu Shabab" militia, regarded as one of the most effective and high-quality militias in the area. In one instance, a Hamas operative came close to carrying out an assassination but was apprehended at the last moment. All detainees are now in Israeli custody, have been interrogated by the Shin Bet, and await decisions on prosecution. The IDF spokesperson has not yet responded.

In the Gaza Strip, three main power centers operate: the IDF, controlling buffer zones, strategic routes, and security areas; Hamas, seeking to maintain its military and political control; and local militias, which aim to establish themselves as alternative forces. Meanwhile, Hamas continues to urge mediators to facilitate a ceasefire and advance the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. A senior Hamas official stated that Hamas and other Palestinian factions "adhere to what was agreed" and are awaiting a clear official response from mediators, including Nikolay Mladenov, regarding the understandings reached.
