Israeli Arab From Nazareth Arrested for Planning Attack on Minister and Contacting Hamas

Mohammad Awad, a 29-year-old resident of Nazareth, was arrested on suspicion of promoting terrorist activities after attempting to recruit and obtain resources from the Hamas terrorist organization. The arrest was made following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet and the Northern District police, revealing that Awad planned to carry out an attack targeting a serving government minister, reportedly National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

During interrogation, Awad admitted to directly contacting Hamas to enlist and secure support for his terrorist plans. The Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against him at the Nazareth court on the morning of the arrest. This case is part of a broader security effort amid a recent surge in terror prevention operations across Israel.

In the past week, the Israel Defense Forces conducted 250 offensive operations in Judea and Samaria, arresting over 60 suspects and seizing significant weaponry. Border Police units also made targeted arrests in cities including Nablus. The Shin Bet and Israeli Police emphasized the seriousness of Israeli citizens' involvement in activities threatening national security and pledged to use all available means to prosecute those involved.
