Israeli Border Police Arrest Jericho Resident for Inciting Violence and Praising Hamas Online

Israeli Border Police detained a 39-year-old man from Jericho on Tuesday night for posting inflammatory content online that praised Hamas and called for attacks against Israeli soldiers. The arrest followed an extended intelligence operation by the Crime Fighting Unit in the Gilad area, in cooperation with the Judea and Samaria district's investigative unit and special Border Police units.

The suspect allegedly operated multiple social media accounts where he systematically published extremist messages inciting violence against Israel and its military. Among his posts were statements glorifying Hamas, including one claiming that the name Hamas means "destruction and ruin" and that it would bring devastation to Israeli occupiers. He also urged followers to "set ambushes and strike your enemies," sharing images praising Hamas leaders.

During a joint nighttime operation, police located the suspect hiding in bushes near his home in Jericho and arrested him. Initial investigations revealed his affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood movement in northern Gaza and connections to Hamas operatives in the Gaza Strip. He was transferred to Maale Adumim police station for further questioning to assess the extent of his online activities and terrorist ties.

The Israeli Police emphasized their commitment to combating incitement and support for terrorist organizations, stating they will not allow such actors to operate freely online. This arrest is part of ongoing efforts to secure public safety by targeting those who promote violence and terrorism through social media platforms.
