Bat Yam Resident to Be Indicted for Spying for Iran After Taking Paid Jobs
In a joint statement issued this morning, Monday, by the police and the Shin Bet, it was announced that as part of a major espionage investigation, a statement of intent to indict has been filed against a Bat Yam resident in his 30s, ahead of the submission of an indictment against him for serious security offenses, including contact with a foreign agent. The suspect was arrested last month after maintaining contact with Iranian intelligence operatives and carrying out various security-related tasks for them. The suspect was arrested last month, and during the investigation suspicion grew that in the months before his arrest he had been in contact with Iranian intelligence operatives and had carried out various security-related tasks. Materials from the investigation showed that at the end of 2025, contact was established between the suspect and an Iranian operative via a social network, during which the suspect agreed to carry out various tasks in exchange for money transferred to him.
About a week and a half ago, the Department for Internal Police Investigations announced that a police officer from Lahav 433 was questioned under caution on suspicion of contact with a foreign agent, and at the end of the process he was released under restrictive conditions to house arrest. Less than a month ago, a serious indictment was filed with the court against Ahmed Fawaz Abd al-Aziz Daas, an Israeli citizen from Tira, who carried out security tasks for Iranian operatives and, among other things, sent locations and photos of security sites and other points of interest in Israel. A few days earlier, it was reported that a civilian and three soldiers had been arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran while they were minors and before they were drafted into the IDF, according to a joint statement by the Shin Bet, the IDF and the police. The investigation found that as part of their tasks, the suspects documented and transferred to their handlers photos and videos of a train store, shopping centers, security cameras, and documentation of the Air Force Technical School where some of the suspects studied. Indictments against the suspects will be filed today by the Haifa District Attorney's Office.
