Northern Resident Arrested for Espionage on Behalf of Lebanese Agent

Hamdan Hamdan, a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum, was recently arrested on suspicion of maintaining contact with a foreign agent from Lebanon for several months and carrying out security missions under her direction. The arrest was the result of a joint operation by the Lahav 433 special investigations unit and the Shin Bet security agency.

According to the investigation's findings, Hamdan was aware that he was communicating with a Lebanese agent who instructed him to perform security tasks. In exchange for his activities, attempts were made to transfer payment to Hamdan by having the foreign entity purchase goods in Israel and deliver them to him.

The investigation, overseen by the Coastal District Prosecutor's Office, is expected to lead to an indictment against Hamdan on Sunday. Following the case, the police and Shin Bet issued a warning against contacting foreign elements from enemy states or unidentified individuals, especially for performing missions in exchange for payment or any other reason.

Security agencies stated that intelligence and terror elements from enemy countries continue to attempt to recruit and operate Israelis for security, espionage, and terror missions within Israel, often through social media outreach. The police and Shin Bet affirmed their commitment to continuing efforts to locate and thwart such activities.
