Northern Resident Arrested for Espionage on Behalf of Lebanese Agent
Police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced Friday the recent arrest of a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum, identified as Hamdan Hamdan, on suspicion of espionage. The arrest was the result of a joint operation by the Lahav 433 special investigations unit and the Shin Bet.
According to the investigation, Hamdan was in contact with a female Lebanese agent for several months. He was allegedly instructed by the agent to carry out security-related tasks and was aware that his contact was with a foreign agent from Lebanon. Attempts were made to pay him by having the foreign entity purchase goods in Israel and transfer them to him.
The investigation, which has been accompanied by the District Attorney's Office for the Coastal District, is nearing its conclusion, with an indictment expected to be filed this coming Sunday.
Notably, Hamdan is reportedly related to a different individual arrested in July for alleged espionage on behalf of Iran. That suspect, an ambulance driver named Amir Hisham Muhammad Titi from Ba'ana, was accused of documenting President Isaac Herzog and photographing the vicinity of former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's residence.
