Israeli Arab Arrested for Alleged Contact With Lebanese Agent

The Shin Bet security agency and Israel Police have arrested Hamdan Hamdan, a 32-year-old Israeli citizen from Majd al-Krum, on suspicion of communicating with a foreign agent from Lebanon and being tasked with carrying out security missions under her direction. An indictment is expected to be filed against him this coming Sunday.

The arrest was the result of a joint operation by the National Unit for Serious and International Crimes Investigation of Lahav 433 and the Shin Bet. According to the investigation's findings, Hamdan was in contact with the foreign agent for several months and was aware that she was operating from Lebanon. During their communication, it is alleged, she instructed him to perform tasks of a security nature. The investigation also revealed that the foreign entity attempted to transfer compensation to the suspect by purchasing products in Israel for him.

Details regarding the specific missions Hamdan was asked to perform, whether he completed them, or the nature of the products purchased for him were not disclosed by the police and Shin Bet. The investigation was conducted with the accompaniment of the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office.

Following the case, the police and Shin Bet issued a warning to Israeli citizens and residents against contacting individuals from enemy states or unknown entities, particularly against carrying out missions for them in exchange for payment. Security officials stated that intelligence and terror elements from enemy countries continue to attempt to recruit and operate Israelis for espionage and terror missions, often through social media outreach. The police and Shin Bet affirmed their continued efforts to locate and thwart activities that endanger the country's security and its citizens.
