Israeli Arab Arrested for Espionage on Behalf of Lebanon

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and Lahav 433, the national fraud and serious crimes unit of the Israel Police, have arrested Hamdan Hamdan, a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum, on suspicion of espionage for a foreign agent from Lebanon. According to the investigation, Hamdan was tasked with carrying out security missions under the agent's direction for several months and was aware that he was communicating with a foreign operative.

A joint statement from the police and Shin Bet revealed that Hamdan was in contact with the Lebanese agent for months, during which time he was asked to perform security tasks. The investigation also indicated attempts were made to transfer payment to Hamdan by purchasing products in Israel for him via the foreign entity.

A indictment is expected to be filed against Hamdan on Sunday. The investigation was overseen by the Coastal District Prosecutor's Office.

Following the arrest, the police and Shin Bet issued a warning to citizens against contacting foreign entities from enemy states or unidentified individuals, and particularly against performing missions for them, whether for payment or other reasons. Security officials noted that intelligence and terror elements from enemy countries continue to attempt to recruit and operate Israelis for security, espionage, and terror missions, often through social media outreach.
