Israeli Arab Man Arrested for Espionage Ties to Lebanon

Israeli authorities have arrested a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum on suspicion of contacting a foreign agent from Lebanon and carrying out security missions under her direction. The suspect, Hamdan Hamdan, was apprehended through a joint operation by the National Unit for International Crime Investigations of Lahav 433 and the Shin Bet security agency.

According to the investigation, Hamdan maintained contact with the foreign agent for several months and was instructed to perform security tasks. Police and the Shin Bet assert that Hamdan was aware he was communicating with a foreign agent from Lebanon. Investigators suspect attempts were made to pay him by having a foreign entity purchase goods in Israel and transfer them to him.

The investigation was overseen by the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, and an indictment is expected to be filed against Hamdan on Sunday, September 20.

Police and the Shin Bet issued a warning against contacting foreign agents from enemy states or unidentified individuals, particularly for performing tasks in exchange for payment. They stated that intelligence and terror elements from enemy countries continue to attempt to recruit and operate Israelis for security, espionage, and terror missions, often through social media outreach.

"The security agencies of the State of Israel will continue to operate to locate and thwart terror and espionage activities in Israel, and will also continue to take the measures at their disposal and do their work faithfully to prevent security activities that endanger the security of the State of Israel and its citizens," a statement read.
