צה"ל החליט לסיים את שירותו של סא"ל א', קצין המודיעין של אוגדת עזה ב-7 באוקטובר, זאת בעקבות ממצאי תחקירים שקבעו כי הוא נושא באחריות פיקודית לאירועי המתקפה. הרמטכ"ל קבע כי סא"ל א' נמנה עם המפקדים האחראים לאירועים. סא"ל א' עתר בעבר נגד ההליך המשמעתי נגדו, אך עתירתו נדחתה. כעת הוא רשאי לערער על החלטת סיום שירותו בפני הרמטכ"ל.
