IDF Officer Responsible for Gaza Intelligence on Oct. 7 Dismissed
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced today the release from service of Lieutenant Colonel A., who served as the intelligence officer for the Gaza Division during the October 7th attacks. The decision was made by the Head of the Manpower Directorate following a determination by the Chief of Staff on November 23, 2023, that a series of senior commanders bore command responsibility for the failures of that day, including Lt. Col. A. due to his role.
The military initiated a formal process to end his service, which has now concluded. This process involved reviewing investigation findings, the Deputy Chief of Staff's opinion, and the officer's performance failures in the period leading up to the attack. The officer's claims, presented to an advisory committee, were also considered.
Ultimately, the Head of the Manpower Directorate accepted the committee's recommendations and decided on the officer's dismissal. The officer has been informed of the decision and retains the right to appeal directly to the Chief of Staff, according to IDF regulations.
