IDF Dismisses Gaza Division Intelligence Officer Over Oct. 7 Failures

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has decided to dismiss Lieutenant Colonel A', who served as the intelligence officer for the Gaza Division on October 7th. The decision comes after extensive legal and command proceedings, stemming from findings of failures in his performance leading up to the Hamas attack.

Lt. Col. A' had attempted to prevent his dismissal by petitioning the court, but the court permitted the process to continue. An IDF committee reviewed the case, presented its recommendations, and based on these, the Head of the Manpower Directorate ordered the dismissal.

According to an IDF spokesperson, the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, determined on November 23, 2025, that a series of senior commanders bore command responsibility for the October 7th events and that disciplinary action was warranted. Lt. Col. A' was among those identified.

During the process to release him from his commitment, all relevant considerations were examined, including the Deputy Chief of Staff's opinion, investigation findings regarding his functional failures before October 7th, and his own arguments about his level of responsibility presented to an advisory committee.

Despite the state determining there was no security impediment to publishing his name, Lt. Col. A' has petitioned the Supreme Court to prevent its release. The petition is still pending, thus his name remains under a publication ban.
