IDF Ousts Gaza Division Intelligence Officer Over Oct. 7 Failures

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has decided to terminate the service of Lieutenant Colonel Aleph, who served as the intelligence officer for the Gaza Division on October 7th. The decision comes after extensive legal and command proceedings, stemming from findings of failures in his performance leading up to the Hamas attack.

Lt. Col. Aleph had attempted to prevent his dismissal by petitioning the court, but his efforts were unsuccessful. A military committee reviewed his case, presenting its recommendations, which led to the Head of the Manpower Directorate's decision to discharge him.

According to an IDF spokesperson, the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, determined on November 23, 2025, that a series of senior commanders bore command responsibility for the October 7th events and that disciplinary action was warranted. Lt. Col. Aleph was among those identified.

The process involved considering all relevant factors, including the Deputy Chief of Staff's opinion, the investigation findings regarding his functional failures before October 7th, and his own arguments about his level of responsibility presented to an advisory committee.

Despite the state determining there was no security impediment to publishing his name, Lt. Col. Aleph's identity remains under a gag order as he has appealed to the Supreme Court to prevent its release. The court has yet to rule on this appeal.
