Extreme Heat Wave Hits Sea of Galilee and Jordan Valley This Weekend

An extreme heat wave is expected to peak on Sunday, with temperatures reaching between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius in the Sea of Galilee area and the Jordan Valley, according to the Meteorological Service forecast. Friday will be mostly clear but unusually hot, with heavy to extreme heat burdens across most of Israel, especially in the mountains and inland areas, while the coastal plain will experience milder temperatures. The heat will intensify on Saturday and reach its highest levels on Sunday, surpassing typical summer temperatures.

The Ministry of Health warns that such heat conditions increase the risk of heat stroke, a dangerous condition where the body fails to cool itself. Vulnerable groups include the elderly, infants and toddlers under four years old, people with heart and vascular diseases, those with obesity or chronic illnesses, individuals on certain medications, and people engaging in intense physical activity. Symptoms of heat stroke include high body temperature, hot red skin, severe headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or loss of consciousness. In such cases, immediate emergency medical assistance should be sought by calling Magen David Adom. Until help arrives, affected individuals should stay in a cool, shaded area and try to cool their bodies.
